Beaches & Swimming
The sea is 12 kilometers away. The river swimming spots even closer.
In fifteen minutes you're at the beach. The coast between Ventimiglia and Menton offers both: lively promenades with facilities and quiet coves between rocks. Looking for variety? The river swimming spots in the hinterland have clear, cool water - and are often deserted.
River Swimming
Cool mountain water, shade from trees, no waves. The alternative to the sea when it's hot.

Roya at Airole
Directly below the village of Airole, you can swim in the Roya River. Gravelly spots, cool mountain water and the historic bridge in the background before the flood. A refreshing cooling off on hot days.

Laghetti di Rocchetta
The Laghetti of Rocchetta Nervina are natural swimming pools in the Barbaira River, surrounded by smooth rocks and Mediterranean vegetation. A popular destination for locals and visitors on hot summer days.
Italian Riviera
Pebble beaches, clear water, beach clubs with sun loungers and umbrellas. Most beaches also have free sections.

Spiaggia delle Calandre
The only true sandy beach in this coastal section - if the sand is still there. Depending on the season and storms, the size varies greatly, sometimes only a narrow strip remains. The harbor construction nearby has taken its toll on the beach. The way there is a small adventure: 15-20 minutes of steep footpath from Forte dell'Annunziata in Ventimiglia Alta, along a path along the cliffs. Not suitable for flip-flops. Instead, shallow, clear water and popular with surfers because of the waves. A small kiosk is sometimes open - you shouldn't rely on it. If you want shade, bring an umbrella.

Beaches of Bordighera
Elegant coastal town with several beaches. The promenade is lovely for strolling, the water clear. A bit farther out, but with more variety.

Beaches of Ventimiglia
The beaches of Ventimiglia stretch along the promenade and offer a mix of free and managed beach sections. Typical pebble beaches of the Riviera with clear water and good infrastructure.
Cote d'Azur
Ten kilometers further begins France. More elegant resorts, different atmosphere, same sea.
