Exotic Garden of Èze
Succulent garden on medieval castle ruins, 429 m above the sea
The Jardin Exotique sits atop the medieval village of Èze, between Nice and Monaco. Created in 1949 on the ruins of a castle demolished in the 18th century, it is now one of the best-known botanical gardens on the Côte d'Azur. The collection features mainly cacti and succulents from Africa and the Americas, arranged on terraces. Among the plants stand terracotta and bronze figures by sculptor Jean-Philippe Richard, installed since 2004. The real draw is the view: on clear days all the way to Corsica, east to Italy, west over Cap Ferrat. Èze itself is a medieval "village perché" and one of the most visited villages on the Côte d'Azur.

Directions
Car: 50 km, about 60 minutes via the A8 motorway (toll) to exit Èze/La Turbie, then Corniche Moyenne. Train: Èze-sur-Mer station is down at the coast — Bus 83 goes up to the village (about 15 min). Alternatively the Sentier Nietzsche on foot (about 45 min, steep climb).
Parking in Èze itself is tight and often full in high season — car park at the village entrance, then walk.
Practical Information
Open year-round, hours vary by season — summer until 19:30, winter until 16:30. Moderate admission. Visit duration: 45–60 min for the garden plus 1–2 hours for the village. Not barrier-free — steep climb and stairs in the garden.
Best Time to Visit
Spring and autumn. In high summer the village is crowded and the garden offers little shade. Clear winter days give the best views to Corsica, but wind and cold at 429 m should not be underestimated.
